D.R. "Doc" Young
How
I a Young, in search of my Father Sep 1992, came to learn that
my Father Richard Newton Young (whom I met for the first time
1968) was born as a Begnal after 2 years into researching him as
a Young in 1994. After obtaining my Father's birth certificate
showing his birth as
Newton Richard Begnal, parents Clifford
Franklin Begnal and Thelma Fern Perry.
How and where the
name Young came from is another story, I believe possibly an
Earl L. Young per the 1930 Federal Census
of 2 Apr, living at 1117 Plymouth Ave., San Francisco a
Teamster, Trucking might have known Thelma and provided
transportation for Thelma (my paternal grandmother), Clifford
Anthony (uncle) & Richard Newton (my father) to San Pedro, as
Thelma F. Benesch, as of 8 Feb 1930 marrying Robert J.
Benesch, living per the 9 Apr 1930 census with Robert at 1377
Hayes St. San Francisco, CA, with her sons listed as Clifford G
Benesh, 6, Stepson (Step Son) and Richard N Benesh, 5, Stepson
(Step Son), my Uncle & Father.
Continuing to connect my Father's Life to the Present, he passes
on 5 Jan 1995. The Journey to connect continues wanting to
learn now of my Begnal Lineage, and for the next 24 years
researching Begnal, this too will change once again.
In
1994, having adding Paternal Grandfather Clifford Franklin
Begnal, b. 31 Mar 1903, Utica, Oneida Co., NY to my Tree, the
search connects George Felix Begnal & Elizabeth Shaughnessy as
parents of Clifford, only no birth record has been found of this
date 13 Feb 2024.
1994 I wrote the
NY Health Dept &
Utica Vital Statistics requesting a record find of a Clifford
Franklin Begnal, b. 31 Mar 1903, Utica, sharing at the time that his
parents were Elizabeth & George F Begnal, both NY Health & Utica replied
with Birth Not Found & Possibly not recorded.
My quest continues for Clifford F Begnal (1903-1960), mother Elizabeth
Shaughnessy (1882-1949), George Felix Begnal (1879-1957) for the next 22
years, thought to be his biological father. Only I am not finding
any records to verify Clifford's birth.
Yet another turn comes 29 Dec 2016, just 13 days after receiving my
Ancestry DNA (Autosomal) Results. A Special Thanks to, my Cousin
John William Rockwell Jr. for the
marriage certificate discovery of
Elizabeth Shaughnessy
and Claude Brudenell Eaton 13 Jun 1900,
New York Mills, Oneida Co., NY Placing Claude Eaton as the
potential birth father of Clifford Franklin Begnal, b. 1903, so I am
hoping.
Another piece of evidence to my
suspicions that George F Begnal might not be Clifford's
bio-father, is a
1928 letter
from Clifford Franklin, living in San Francisco, CA to his Aunt Ella
(Shaughnessy) Rockwell in Utica, NY asking who his Father was,
as Elizabeth had told him it was not George Felix Begnal.
Sadly I do not have a reply letter from Ella.
So my Search now is of Claude Brudenell Eaton (1879-1956)
meaning those descendants of My GF Clifford Franklin Begnal
(1903-1960), my Uncle Clifford
Anthony Begnal Young (1923-2012), and Father Newton Richard Begnal Young
(1924-1995) are Eaton Descendants not of Begnal or Young DNA, only by name.
Dec 2018, I take the FamilyTreeDNA
Y-DNA37 test, results in on
5 Feb 2019, of test Kit No. 892549
- I have 16 matches to the surname of "Eaton"
31 Aug 2019 with 8 @ 37marker and 8 @ 25markers.
Making it Official...I am now a
Descendant of Francis Eaton (1595-1633)
Bristol, England and of
his 3rd marriage to Christiana Penn (1607--1684), their son Benjamin
Eaton (1627-1711) I am his
9th Great Grandson.
In 1607, 13 years before the Pilgrims, English
colonists set sail to find gold, 3 ships – the Susan Constant, the
Discovery, and the Godspeed – set sail from England in December 1606 for
the New World...They founded Virginia

John Henry Eaton, the Secretary of War for President Andrew Jackson

Meaning of the Surname Eaton /
Eyton
| Who are You
Really ? even if you have
taken a DNA Test
I have connected Claude Brudenell Eaton back to
Francis Eaton, baptized on 11 September 1596 at St. Thomas'
Church in Bristol, England.
Francis was a son of John Eaton and his wife Dorothy (Smith). He
had younger siblings who were born after him - including Jane in
1598/99, Samuel in 1600 and Welthian in 1602, but all siblings
died of a possible devastating illness in March 1603 which may
have spread through the whole family. He was the only child of
this family known to survive until adulthood.
Eaton had become a house carpenter in Bristol by about age
nineteen (c.1615) and was living in a tenement in the parish of
St. Phillips, Bristol. Bristol records subsequent to 1615, do not
list Francis Eaton, who may have left England for Holland, as
Bradford lists him on the Mayflower passenger list section for Leiden congregation members.
Probably about 1618 or 1619 in England, Francis Eaton married a
woman named Sarah (maiden name unknown). There is no record in
Bristol of his first marriage or of the birth of his son Samuel
there, indicating the family may have lived elsewhere in England
prior to boarding the Mayflower.

Interesting Middle Name of Claude B Eaton,
unknown how/why he was given this as a middle name. So far no
other Ancestor connected shares Brudenell as a Given, Middle or Surname.
Or if this Eaton Family has a connection to the following History of the
name.
Brudenell (surname) History - is said to come from the family
of James Thomas Brudenell, who owned
Kirkstall Abbey after it ceased to be a monastery in 1539.
.
James Thomas Brudenell was also the
Earl of Cardigan. This connection explains why many roads in
the Hyde Park area of Leeds are named Cardigan and Brudenell, and
therefore how the Brudenell itself got its name.
Hyde Park is an inner-city area of north-west Leeds, West Yorkshire,
England, situated between the
University of Leeds and Headingley. It sits in the Headingley
and Hyde Park ward of Leeds City Council and Leeds Central constituency.

Surname of Eaton Meaning
Eyton/Eaton is of
Anglo-Saxon origin,
and is a locational surname deriving from any one of the numerous places called
Eaton found in most of the midland and north-midland counties of England.
Most of these places are named with the Olde
English pre 7th Century "ea", river, with "tun", enclosure, settlement, and are
variously recorded in the Domesday Book of 1086 as "Etone", "Etune", "Ettuna",
and "Ettone".
The other places called Eaton are named with the
Olde English "eg", island, low-lying land, with "tun", as before, and are mostly
recorded in the Domesday Book as "Eitone" and "Eitune".
The modern surname has two main forms, Eaton and
Eyton. Among the recordings of the name in London are those of the
christening of John Eaton, at St. Lawrence Jewry, on January 20th 1566, and the
marriage of Edward Eaton and Clemence Jordan at St. Mary's, Woodchurch, on
October 15th 1570.
The first recorded spelling of the family name is
shown to be that of Peter de Eton, which was dated 1273, in the "Hundred Rolls
of Huntingdonshire", during the reign of King Edward 1, known as "The Hammer of
the Scots", 1272 - 1307.
Surnames became necessary when governments
introduced personal taxation. In England this was known as Poll Tax.
Throughout the centuries, surnames in every country have continued to "develop"
often leading to astonishing variants of the original spelling.
Eyton/Eaton, Eyghton, Eiton, Eytone and other such variations. In
many cases it may be difficult to prove that one family was related by blood to
another as historical references often were more concerned with property and
position than kin and, unless an heiress, maternal lines were seldom recorded.
Many changes in spelling were accidental, some were
deliberate to declare a cause or to distance a branch from the main stem, but
most followed the traditional Norman custom which did not allow sons to bear the
family name until after the death of the father.
The early Anglo-Saxon period includes the
creation of an
English nation, with many of the aspects that survive today, including
regional government of
shires and
hundreds. During this period, Christianity was re-established and there was
a flowering of literature and language. Charters and law were also established
History in the Making: During the 16th-18th centuries, England
was ravaged by religious and political conflict. In the 17th
century, the great migrations from Europe were primarily focused on the
New World. Many descendants of the early de Eyton's and/or Eaton's
sailed aboard the armada of small sailing ships known as the "White
Sails" which sailed the stormy Atlantic.
These overcrowded ships lost many of the newcomers to disease and the
elements, thus many never made it to shore. The surviving few,
were soon to settled in the eastern seaboards of Newfoundland,
